We are pleased to announce a new supported server type joining the line-up: SFTP. While our existing SSH (atomic) and FTP (incremental - i.e. upload changes in-place) strategies covered most use cases and user needs, this new type essentially bridges the gap between the two.

Deploy from Git to SFTP server

This means that the SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) will be used for uploads, but much like the FTP strategy, the strategy is limited to uploading and deleting files, and does not attempt to run any commands on your server. Aside from the reduced complexity of not having to deal with atomic deployments, this is particularly useful for interacting with hosts that only provide SFTP access, such as Flywheel.

For both incremental server types (FTP and SFTP), Launchdeck keeps track of the state of current release on your server, and only uploads changed files (or deletes removed once) for each subsequent “publish” after your first deployment.

Learn how to put SFTP deployments into practice in our tutorial "How to deploy from Git to SFTP" or through our docs on setting up an SFTP server.
