Deploy to Vultr

Last Updated: 16th September 2026

In this guide, you'll learn how to deploy applications to Vultr from a Git repository using Launchdeck.

Whether you're deploying a WordPress site, Laravel application, React frontend, or another Git-based application, Launchdeck automates deployments from your Git repository to your Vultr server.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, you'll need a Git repository on GitHub or Bitbucket, a Vultr account, and a Vultr server to run your website or application.

Launchdeck connects directly to Vultr servers, giving you a repeatable way to build and deploy changes from your Git repository to your server.

To connect your Vultr server to Launchdeck, you'll need the following:

  • IP address or hostname
  • username
  • password or SSH key
  • Upload path

Your server's public IP address is available from the Vultr Console.

Step 1: Create a new project

Go to the Launchdeck Home Page and click Add your first project to get started.

Home Page - Add A New Project

If you're using a private or self-hosted Git server, choose the Private/Hosted Git server option.

If you haven’t configured a provider yet, selecting a provider takes you to a login screen where you can authorise Launchdeck to access your repositories.

Wizard Step 1 - Enter Project Name and Connect Repository

Once your repository is connected, you can select a repository and a branch you'll deploy from.

Note: Launchdeck can automatically suggest build commands for some repositories. You can review and edit these commands before deploying.

Once done, you can click Next.

Step 2: Add server to project

On this page, you'll need to enter the server credentials, environment name (e.g. production) and transfer protocol. For a Vultr server, you can connect using SSH or SFTP, which use port 22 by default. We recommend SSH if you want to use Launchdeck features that require commands to be executed on your server.

Launchdeck also supports FTP, although FTP is not enabled by default on Vultr servers and requires an FTP server to be installed and configured separately.

Before connecting your server to Launchdeck, we recommend creating a dedicated user for deployments rather than connecting as root. The deployment user should have access to your application's deployment directory and any permissions required by your deployment commands.

Vultr also supports Limited User Login when creating a server, which creates a non-root user with sudo privileges.

Once your deployment user is ready, enter your server's IP address, username and authentication details into Launchdeck.

If you're using SSH key authentication, log in to your server as the deployment user, then copy and run the SSH key command provided by Launchdeck to authorise the user.

Wizard Step 2.1 - Enter Environment Name, Protocol and Connection Details

Then enter the Upload Path on the Vultr server where your code will be stored.

Upload Path

Enter the directory where your website or application should be deployed. This depends on your server configuration. A common location is /var/www/your-site, but you should use the directory configured for your application.

To verify the Connection Details are correct, run the server connection test.

Wizard Step 2.2 - Verify Your Server Connection

Connection test failing? Check that your server or Vultr Firewall allows incoming connections on your selected SSH or SFTP port.

If you want Launchdeck to automatically build and deploy new commits when you push to your selected branch, enable Auto-deploy to this server. You can also leave this disabled and trigger builds and deployments manually from the Project Overview page.

Then click Next.

Step 3: Build and deploy to Vultr

From there, you can review basic details and click Create New Project to complete setup.

Wizard Step 3

This will redirect you to the Project Overview page. With auto-deploy enabled, when Launchdeck detects new commits on your selected branch, the latest commit will automatically be built and deployed to your server.

You can also deploy manually at any time. Click Build on a specific commit to run your configured build commands and transfer the resulting code to your server. Once the build is successful, click Publish to switch to the new release.
